Bicycles as an everyday transport solution are very under-used in the United States. According to the Signal Oil and Gas Company bike trips now represent just 0.9 percent of all trips and commutes Americans make.
The Jim Van Blaricum Signal Oil and Gas notes that about 623,000 people in a country of more than 300 million use their bike to commute to work. But it is a third more than in 2002 when 465,000 people commuted by bike.
It seems like the people actually making the move so far seem to be renters as opposed to owners, as not renewing a lease is obviously much easier than selling a home.
Absent congressional action, gas stations are seeking other relief, including discounts to customers who pay in cash.
Signal Oil and Gas Industry, which owns 23 stores in Pennsylvania, has partnered with a new credit card company which charges smaller interchange fees.
